News: Assa Abloy acquires Lawrence Doors to strengthen American market presence

ASSA ABLOY has announced the acquisition of Lawrence Doors, a prominent U.S. manufacturer specializing in coiling steel doors, grilles, and counter shutters. This move, the company says, underscores its commitment to expanding its market footprint in the United States by adding complementary products to its existing portfolio.
Nico Delvaux, President and CEO of ASSA ABLOY, expressed optimism about the acquisition, noting that it aligns with the company’s broader strategy to deepen its presence in established markets. “I am very pleased to welcome Lawrence Doors into the ASSA ABLOY Group. This acquisition delivers on our strategy to strengthen our position in mature markets by adding complementary products and solutions to our core business,” Delvaux stated.
The acquisition allows ASSA ABLOY to enter the rapidly growing U.S. coiling steel door market and marks a significant expansion of the company’s operations on the West Coast. Massimo Grassi, Executive Vice President of ASSA ABLOY and Head of the Entrance Systems Division, emphasized the strategic benefits. “With the acquisition of Lawrence Doors, we are set to establish a strong presence on the U.S. West Coast,” Grassi remarked. “This acquisition will also equip us with the expertise and product portfolio needed to better serve our dealers and customers.”
Founded in 1925 and headquartered in Baldwin Park, California, Lawrence Doors employs approximately 120 people. It recorded sales of $31 million in 2023, with a robust EBIT margin, according to ASSA ABLOY. The company will now integrate into the Business Segment Residential under ASSA ABLOY’s Entrance Systems Division. The acquisition is expected to immediately contribute positively to ASSA ABLOY’s earnings per share (EPS).
As ASSA ABLOY strengthens its U.S. operations, industry analysts predict that this acquisition will enhance its competitive positioning in the coiling steel market, benefiting both customers and dealers across the region.
Why this matters: The acquisition of Lawrence Doors by ASSA ABLOY is significant for the U.S. glazing industry as it enhances product offerings, strengthens market presence, and brings new expertise, particularly in the rapidly growing coiling steel door segment.
