Ultraframe has launched its new Stratus Flat Skylight, a product designed to meet demand for thermally efficient and easy-to-install solutions in the UK installer sector.

The Stratus Flat Skylight aims to provide installers with a component that is competitively priced and simple to install. According to the company, the product was developed with as few components as possible while focusing on thermal efficiency. This launch comes in response to market trends where flat skylights have seen a significant rise in popularity in recent years.

Development of the new product was informed by customer feedback on a previous flat skylight. Ultraframe stated that the primary driver for the new version was to improve thermal benefits. The company has sought to advance its offering by incorporating specific design changes based on insights gathered from its customer base.

Key technical modifications include a slimmer profile and a multi-chambered PVC base. This new design is approximately 30% slimmer than its predecessor, which the company claims offers both aesthetic and performance advantages. The slimmer frame is intended to create a more contemporary look while enhancing thermal performance by increasing the glass-to-frame ratio.

Installation has been a core focus of the new design. The system features pre-fitted clips on the base profile, allowing the glass lid to be clipped on after the base is secured. The base itself is described as lightweight, and the design includes multiple gaskets to ensure a watertight seal and accommodate minor tolerances in the glass. The product has been weather tested to the BS 6375 standard.

According to the company, feedback from its customers highlighted the need for a product that is quick and easy to install on site. Customers also require reassurance against potential future issues such as leaks. This direct market feedback was a critical factor in the development process.

UltraFrame emphasised the importance of its relationship with customers in its product development cycle. The business described the gathering of customer feedback on existing products as a continual process. This information is then used to inform future developments and to make ongoing improvements to its current product portfolio.
