Smaller show, sharper signals: what GlassBuild America 2026 tells UK fenestration

Las Vegas delivered AI order entry, wildfire-rated windows and smarter warm-edge components – plus some headline numbers worth reading closely.

GlassBuild America returned to Las Vegas on 23–25 September, and the National Glass Association (NGA) is upbeat. The organiser reports 535 exhibitors, 94 of them first-timers, across 201,350 net sq ft of the renovated West Hall – a record for a Las Vegas edition – with nearly 9,200 registrants from the US and 63 other countries.

Read the small print, though, and the picture is more nuanced. Last year’s Orlando show hosted 589 exhibitors and more than 9,600 participants across 232,600 sq ft. Like for like, the 2026 floor was around 13% smaller and the exhibitor list 9% shorter. That is no crisis, but it is a reminder that headline records need context.

AI moves from slideware to the order desk

The clearest technology theme was AI applied to unglamorous admin. The debut Innovation Lounge – 15 curated exhibitors across AI, robotics, sustainability, technology and architectural glass – framed AI around design, quoting and manufacturing. A+W Software brought its Mira-powered order-entry tool, pitched at smaller fabricators buried in PDF orders, while Cyncly’s Soft Tech V6 Advantage X3D Visualizer took Window + Door’s Best Digital Tool award.

For UK fabricators still rekeying installer orders by hand, the message is clear: the business case is now being built for mid-sized firms, not just the giants.

Automation as the answer to labour

Machinery suppliers including Glaston showed automation across tempering, lamination and IGU production, and Joseph Machine Company’s jFlex SFMC won Best Machinery/Equipment. The driver is the skills shortage British factories know only too well. NGA brought 250 local high-school students on to the floor for skills challenges and VR glazing simulations – a recruitment model the GGF and FIT Show could usefully study.

Thermal performance and resilience

Two component awards land squarely in UK territory. Technoform’s Intercept Extreme warm-edge spacer and Ensinger’s insulbar ESPOC thermal break tied for Most Innovative Component. Both suppliers have deep European footprints, and both speak to the Uw gains UK systems houses need as Part L and the Future Homes Standard tighten.

Cascadia’s wildfire-resistant Universal Series took Most Innovative Window. With British summers growing hotter and drier, resilience ratings may become a specification question here sooner than many expect. Awake’s 555 Series pivot door and LePage’s multislide underlined continued US appetite for large-format openings.

The UK in the aisles

FIT Show’s Rik Henderson and Eloise Cormie walked the halls, meeting international businesses weighing the UK market ahead of FIT Show 2027. They will have noted NGA’s first keynote programme, featuring Shark Tank’s Daymond John, ITR Economics’ Connor Lokar and CannonDesign’s Barbara Bouza.

Verdict

GlassBuild 2026 was less about headline launches than practical tools: software that removes data entry, robots that cover missing labour and components that wring more performance from the frame. None of it is exotic – and that is the point. Expect much of it at glasstec in Düsseldorf on 20–23 October, and on UK stands by 2027. GlassBuild heads to Orlando on 26–28 October 2027.
