Inside Pinefield Glass: the team effort behind every project

At Pinefield Glass, much of what keeps the business moving happens out of sight. While customers see finished installations and completed projects, the day-to-day reality is shaped by careful planning, close coordination and a workforce whose roles are tightly connected across sales, production, logistics and installation.

That structure is central to how the company operates. With more than 90 people across the Scotland-based business, Pinefield Glass relies on a combination of specialist knowledge and teamwork to maintain the standards it has built its reputation on. Each department has its own focus, but the emphasis is firmly on working together to keep projects progressing smoothly from first enquiry to final installation.

The business is led by a team of directors with long experience across different parts of the industry. Bryan Yule, co-founder and managing director, brings four decades in the glass and window sector and remains closely involved in developing the business, managing key clients and supporting the growth of the team. Alongside him, Martin Charlesworth, co-owner and operations director, oversees the day-to-day running of the company, connecting departments and helping ensure projects are delivered efficiently.

Diane Charlesworth, co-owner and finance director, manages the financial side of the business. Having been with Pinefield Glass since its foundation in 2011, she has progressed through the company into a role that now covers payroll, supplier payments and the wider finance function. On the commercial side, Martin McMullan, co-owner and domestic sales director, manages domestic fitters and scheduling while maintaining customer relationships, while Jamie Edwards, co-owner and installation and technical director, brings more than 30 years of experience to overseeing installation and technical operations on site.

Below director level, that leadership is reinforced by a group of experienced managers whose work underpins the delivery of each project. Colin Charlesworth, contracts manager, oversees contract sales, new build developments and trade sales. Once orders are secured, estimator Doug Malcom turns enquiries into detailed orders and serves as the main point of contact in the showroom, helping customers ensure specifications are accurate before production begins.

Logistics and transport are another critical part of the process. Charlie Charlesworth, transport manager, is responsible for keeping the company’s fleet operational and ensuring vehicles and installers are deployed efficiently. His role is central to making sure projects continue without disruption and resources are available where they are needed.

The link between planning and fitting is handled by Graham McKenzie, surveyor, who has been with Pinefield Glass since the beginning. With more than 25 years of experience, he helps guide customers through supply and fit options while making sure measurements are accurate and ready for the next stage.

Inside the factory, timing and communication are crucial. Scott Gordon, production coordinator, manages the connection between office and factory, oversees stock and ensures materials are in place when required. Richard McLennan, factory manager, brings more than 26 years of experience and a detailed understanding of the production process, having worked his way up from the shop floor. His focus is on maintaining quality while continuing to improve how work is done.

For new build projects, coordination extends beyond the factory and office. Ross Balmer, new build coordinator, works between housebuilders and installation teams to make sure sites are ready and schedules remain on track. It is a role that depends heavily on communication, drawing on experience across both sales and production.

Supporting all of this is a finance and administration function that provides the organisational backbone of the company. Shannon McCue, finance assistant, works alongside Diane Charlesworth across credit control, purchasing and HR. The administration team, led by senior administrator Errin McPherson and supported by Shannon Adams and Liam McDonald, manages order entry, production coordination and the daily processes that keep the office running effectively. Liam also supports sales enquiries and pricing as his role continues to develop.

On the domestic side, Kylie Ashman, domestic sales assistant, works closely with Martin McMullan to support fitters and help ensure projects move forward efficiently. Together, those teams help keep the business responsive and organised across a wide range of work.

What emerges is a picture of a business built not only on experience, but on the systems and relationships that allow that experience to be used effectively. Pinefield Glass has a strong family influence at its core, but its wider strength lies in the way different skills and perspectives are brought together across the company. In a business where success depends on precision, timing and trust, that culture appears to be as important as any individual role.
