UK PRODUCTS: Saint-Gobain Glass expands high-performance solar control glass portfolio

Saint-Gobain Glass has unveiled COOL-LITE® XTREME 51/23 and COOL-LITE® XTREME 51/23 II, the latest additions to its high-performance solar control glass portfolio. Designed to deliver strong thermal performance and visual clarity, the new products reflect the company’s focus on balancing design flexibility, sustainability, and energy efficiency in modern architecture.

Both versions feature a triple silver coating that achieves a light transmission of 51% alongside a solar factor of 23%, resulting in a selectivity of 2.22—the highest within the XTREME range. This ratio allows buildings to benefit from increased daylight while reducing solar heat gain, an important factor in maintaining comfort and energy performance in heavily glazed structures.

For the first time, the XTREME specification includes an annealed option with COOL-LITE® XTREME 51/23, complementing the to-be-tempered 51/23 II version. Both offer identical visual and technical performance, giving architects and fabricators greater scope when specifying glass for façades, curtain walls, or roof applications. The tempered variant is also supplied with EASYPRO® surface protection, designed to make processing and handling cleaner and more efficient while reducing waste in production.

The glass is noted for its refined neutral appearance, with low external reflectivity and colour consistency across viewing angles—qualities that align with current architectural preferences for understated, contemporary façades.

In line with Saint-Gobain’s sustainability goals, the new glass can be specified on PLANICLEAR® standard float, DIAMANT® low-iron, and ORAÉ® low-carbon substrates. The availability on ORAÉ® provides a route to lower embodied carbon while maintaining high performance, supporting compliance with tightening environmental standards.

The 51/23 range will replace the outgoing 50/22 II model, offering improved aesthetics and greater design flexibility. Manufactured in Germany, it joins existing products in the XTREME family such as 70/33 (II) and 61/29 (II), continuing Saint-Gobain’s reputation for reliability and supply consistency.

With this launch, Saint-Gobain Glass reinforces its position as a key supplier to the architectural glazing market, combining performance and sustainability in products designed for the next generation of energy-conscious buildings.
