AGC Glass Europe is broadening its acoustic offering with Stratophone, a laminated glass designed to limit noise transmission while maintaining the safety properties of the company’s Stratobel line. Built around a three-layer acoustic PVB structure that includes an extra-soft film, the glass is designed to absorb sound waves and reduce disturbance in everyday environments.
The company frames the product as a response to rising concerns around noise pollution across both residential and commercial settings. According to AGC’s data, Stratophone can cut perceived noise by 50% to 75% compared with standard double glazing, depending on the composition selected. Performance values are expressed using Rw, C and Ctr metrics under EN 12758, with sample configurations showing gains of up to 19 dB over common glazing systems.
AGC identifies three primary application areas. In building facades, Stratophone is positioned as a way to approach the sound insulation of a concrete wall while remaining thinner and lighter and still admitting daylight. In residential settings, the glass is intended to improve comfort for daily activities, from rest to work, with the added benefit of integrating a safety laminate. For interior projects, including offices and meeting areas, Stratophone is presented as a higher-performing alternative to traditional dual glazing using tempered glass, reducing thickness and overall weight while improving acoustic performance.
The product line is also available in a low-carbon version and carries Cradle to Cradle Certified Bronze status. All variants undergo laboratory testing, with acoustic certificates accessible through AGC sales teams.
As cities grow denser and indoor sound standards rise, AGC is placing Stratophone as part of a broader suite of materials aimed at moderating noise in both homes and commercial buildings.
