NEWS: Huntsman marks 50 years of KRYSTALFLEX® with GlassBuild showcase

Huntsman Corporation will mark the 50th anniversary of its KRYSTALFLEX® thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) technology at GlassBuild America 2025, where it will exhibit a selection of safety glazing films used in architectural and transportation applications.

The company will showcase interlayer films from its KRYSTALFLEX® portfolio at the annual event, which runs from 4 to 6 November at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. Visitors will be able to view samples and learn more about the material’s use in impact-resistant and optically clear laminated glazing systems.

Developed to deliver long-term performance in demanding environments, KRYSTALFLEX® TPU films are designed to withstand UV exposure and moisture. The technology has become increasingly relevant amid growing demand for resilient building and vehicle glazing in the face of extreme weather events, such as hurricanes, and heightened security concerns.

In architecture, the films are being adopted for use in facades, windows and interior partitions. In the transport sector, they are used across a variety of vehicles – including cars, trains, aircraft and military platforms – to enhance passenger protection, structural integrity and overall durability.

Huntsman also notes the material’s potential to aid vehicle lightweighting by enabling the bonding of polycarbonate and acrylic substrates, offering strength without added weight.

The five featured products at this year’s event reflect the diversity of the KRYSTALFLEX® TPU film range. They include PE399, a mid-range modulus film suitable for ballistic applications; PE429, which offers strong adhesion to acrylics at low temperatures; and PE499, the company’s lowest modulus film, designed for curved and temperature-sensitive laminates.

Also on display will be PE501, known for its high tensile and tear strength, making it well suited to impact and bullet-resistant glazing; and PE505, a high modulus film offering impact resistance across a broad temperature range.

Steven Wilaniskis, KRYSTALFLEX® Account Manager at Huntsman, said the company was “excited” to participate in this year’s show. “This year’s event is especially meaningful as we celebrate 50 years of innovation in protective glazing technology,” he said.

To coincide with the milestone, Huntsman has rebranded the KRYSTALFLEX® line and launched a new website to support customer engagement.
