NEWS: Regency Glass backs triple glazing shift with new IGU investment

Regency Glass, one of the UK’s leading producers of insulating glass units (IGUs), has placed a significant order with Finnish manufacturer Glaston to boost its production capacity in ultra-thin triple glazing, marking a major step in the evolution of British fenestration manufacturing.

The deal, booked in Glaston’s Q1 2025 order book, includes an ULTRA TPS® line tailored for IGUs with ultra-thin centre panes, MULTI’ARRISSER edge processing machines, and a next-generation FC Series X glass tempering line. Deliveries are scheduled for the second half of 2025.

The investment reflects Regency Glass’s pivot towards a new generation of high-performance IGUs—triple glazed units featuring a centre pane as thin as 0.5mm. These advanced units deliver up to 35% improved U-values compared to conventional double glazing, offering superior thermal performance with minimal added weight—just 5% heavier than a standard double-glazed unit.

“The move signals Regency’s strategic push into a market segment that prioritises energy efficiency without compromising on weight or frame compatibility,” said Sasu Koivumäki, Chief Sales Officer at Glaston. “Our TPS® technology and patented ultra-thin glass processing method are at the heart of this capability.”

The company’s new product line is designed with both new builds and replacement windows in mind, aligning with government mandates and homeowner demand for low-carbon, retrofit-friendly solutions. The glazing industry, under increasing pressure to meet stricter insulation and sustainability standards, is seeing rising interest in advanced IGU formats that can slot into existing frames.

Regency Glass, known for its quality-led production ethos, had already automated its tempering lines using Glaston’s Autopilot software. The company will continue leveraging this automation platform in the new expansion.

The move sets a precedent in the UK IGU sector, underlining a broader trend towards lightweight, thermally efficient glazing solutions in the face of tightening building regulations and sustainability goals.
