Glass industry giants descend on Düsseldorf for major decarbonisation showcase

Leading names from the international glass and glazing industry will gather in Düsseldorf this October for glasstec 2026, the sector’s flagship trade fair, with organisers reporting strong early interest from companies across 48 countries.

Running from 20 to 23 October at Düsseldorf Exhibition Centre, the event will bring together businesses from across the glass value chain, spanning production, processing, finishing and finished products, alongside architects, engineers and researchers. Organisers say the show comes at a pivotal moment for the industry, with decarbonisation, circular economy practices and digital technologies including AI reshaping how glass is made and used.

A central feature of this year’s fair will be glass technology live, a special exhibition run in partnership with technical universities in Delft, Darmstadt, Dresden and Bochum. The showcase will present research projects and emerging technologies that organisers hope will move from the laboratory into commercial production, giving visitors a glimpse of innovations still some way from mainstream adoption.

The event’s conference programme has also been expanded for 2026. Alongside returning sessions such as glass trends and the architecture forum, this year will see the debut of women in glass, a new networking initiative, and a special exhibition on secure and sustainable glass, developed with the German institute ift Rosenheim. That show will focus on glazing solutions designed to protect buildings and critical infrastructure, an area of growing concern amid rising security and climate pressures across Europe.

The UK’s own glazing and fenestration sector, which has faced a turbulent few years amid material cost pressures and shifting energy efficiency rules, is expected to be well represented among the international visitors seeking new suppliers and technology partners.

Daniel Feische, director of glasstec and its Glass Technologies Portfolio, said the fair arrived at a time when the industry was hungry for direction. “glasstec brings the international glass sector together precisely at a point in time where orientation and personal exchange are in particular demand,” he said. “Here innovations encounter concrete applications, research meets with practice and international decision-makers with new business partners.”

Organisers describe the fair as a key venue for investment decisions across the sector, with exhibitors ranging from major manufacturers to smaller specialist technology firms. Full details of the conference programme, along with exhibitor listings and ticket information, are available at www.glasstec.de, where visitors can also begin planning their trip using the event’s MyOrganizer tool ahead of October’s gathering.

Why This Matters: For UK fenestration firms navigating tightening energy standards and cost pressures, glasstec matters more than a trade show diary date. With 48 countries confirmed and a programme built around decarbonisation, digital innovation and circular economy practice, Düsseldorf becomes a barometer for where the industry is heading. UK fabricators and systems houses attending will be scouting the technologies and partnerships likely to shape compliance, supply chains and competitiveness over the next several years, well beyond this single event.
